At Agrigear, we regularly work with customers who require tailored solutions to improve machine performance in demanding conditions. A recent project involved a JCB 457S loader, where the customer was looking to increase front-end traction and overall stability during operation.

 

 

The machine arrived with standard factory-fitted rims. Following an assessment of the application, it was identified that a dual wheel configuration on the front axle would significantly improve performance, particularly in challenging ground conditions where additional grip and load distribution are essential.

Custom Dual Wheel Setup

Agrigear designed and manufactured a custom dual wheel system that integrates directly with the original rims. This approach allowed the existing setup to be retained while enhancing the machine’s capability through an additional outer wheel.

The project involved:

• Designing a dual wheel assembly compatible with the original rim
• Manufacturing the components in-house to ensure precise fitment
• Installing the complete setup at agrigear.

This type of solution is particularly beneficial for loaders that operate under heavy load conditions or on softer ground where traction is critical.

 

Tyre Selection and Fitment

To complete the setup, we fitted BKT AGRIMAX RT 945 tyres in size 320/90R46 on the newly installed outer rims.

The combination of tyre choice and dual configuration ensures that the machine can operate more efficiently without compromising safety or performance.

 

Performance Benefits

The dual wheel setup provides a significantly larger footprint, allowing the machine’s weight to be distributed more evenly across the ground. This helps reduce ground pressure, protecting soil structure and minimising compaction, particularly in softer conditions. At the same time, the additional tyre contact improves traction, ensuring better grip during demanding operations. Another key advantage is the improved lateral stability, which enhances machine control and safety when working on slopes for silage pushing or during loading tasks. Together, these benefits contribute to more efficient, stable, and reliable performance in day-to-day operations.
