Tyres are an important part of how a modern tractor performs, particularly when manufacturers are working with larger machines, higher power outputs and changing demands in the field. A recent technical collaboration between BKT and Massey Ferguson has resulted in three new AGRIMAX V-FLECTO VF tyre sizes developed specifically for the MF 7S Mark 2.

Developed Around the Tractor

The project began with a specific engineering requirement from Massey Ferguson. The MF 7S Mark 2 was designed to move beyond the conventional rear tyre diameter of around 1.93 metres and use a 2.0-metre rear configuration, while maintaining the correct balance between the front and rear axles.

BKT developed three AGRIMAX V-FLECTO VF sizes for the tractor:

  • VF 650/70 R 42 – rear
  • VF 710/60 R 44 – rear
  • VF 600/65 R 30 – front

These create two new tyre combinations for the MF 7S Mark 2, with both rear options paired with the VF 600/65 R 30 front tyre.

Focus on Footprint and Soil Protection

The two combinations have been developed to provide a larger footprint while supporting traction, stability and lower-pressure operation. The VF 650/70 R 42 combination is intended as a versatile option for applications including ploughing, transport and general field work, while the VF 710/60 R 44 configuration provides a particularly large contact area for demanding applications, slopes and transport.

According to BKT, both configurations are designed around the same objectives: larger footprint, improved traction potential, reduced soil impact and better operating efficiency.

For modern farming, these factors are increasingly important as machinery becomes larger and heavier. The ability to manage tyre footprint and inflation pressure can influence how effectively a tractor transfers power to the ground while also helping to manage the impact on soil.

AGRIMAX V-FLECTO and the MF 7S Mark 2

The collaboration also highlights the importance of developing tyres around the machine rather than treating tyre fitment as a standard exercise. BKT describes the project as a technical exchange that began during the early stages of development, with the tyre combinations designed around the tractor's architecture and expected operating requirements.

The AGRIMAX V-FLECTO also features an updated sidewall developed in collaboration with Pininfarina, giving the tyre a distinctive appearance that complements the design of the MF 7S Mark 2. The pattern has also received the DLG-APPROVED quality mark in specific tested sizes for the “Resources Protection” and “User friendliness” test modules.

The BKT and Massey Ferguson collaboration demonstrates how tyre development can form an important part of modern tractor engineering, with tyre dimensions, footprint, pressure, traction and stability all contributing to the overall performance of the machine.
